We talk about ‘growth’ when we talk about learning. We expect it to happen. But it is rare to see someone who has the ability to grow at the rate Roy seems to be able to handle - perhaps the first clue to this is Roy's height - he is tall man! Roy bought his first computer for his MADL program, and now he is established as one of the leaders of our group. Pretty impressive!
Roy is a ‘Stewart’ and proud of his Scottish heritage –he may even be able to trace his family back to Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots and the royal line of ‘Stuart’.
This 'Leo' has led a colourful life. A former professional rock musician and owner of a Fender Stratocaster, Roy has by his own admission had many adventures with members of the fair sex - but that is all behind him now (so he says) as he is now happily married for 5 years to a lovely and talented lady - Haruko; a musician, writer, published author, editor and practitioner of Japanese Acupuncture and massage.
Both Roy and Haruko are avid hikers, and Roy is also a swimmer and tennis player. Roy is one of the most social guys you could meet, he enjoys a good party and he may well have never met a six-pack he didn’t like or enjoy.
Roy formerly worked in the Distance Education Department at BCIT and is currently employed by the BCIT Book Store as an Inventory Controller – Roy sends out neat packages of learning to a lot of people – including me. Roy is hoping to change his career direction and in his own words to “finish his education”. I suspect this reader and fan of the likes of Huxley, Orwell, Dostoyevsky, and many more ‘classics’ will never be ‘finished his education’…
I am waiting with great anticipation to see what he does next…
